C’est à Romagne-sous-Montfaucon que se trouve le plus grand cimetière américain en Europe. Plus de 14000 soldats y reposent, la plupart ont été tués durant l’offensive de l’Argonne entre septembre et novembre 1918.
Romagne-sous-Monfaucon, the largest american cemetery in Europe ; more than 14000 soldiers are buried here. Most of them died during the Meuse Argonne offensive who took place from september to november 1918.

Alfred Delmache est né à Londenières, le 26 mai 1881 (Seine-Maritime). A l’époque de son service militaire, il exerçait le métier de garçon-meunier. Canonnier au 11e Régiment d’Infanterie, il sera grièvement blessé lors d’une corvée de ravitaillement le 19 juin 1915 et décédera des suites de ses blessures le même jour dans une des ambulances de Duisans (Pas-de-Calais) où il avait été transporté. Il est inhumé dans le petit cimetière de sa commune de naissance.
